The scientific activity carried out in the DSF is articulated in the following areas of research with a high content of innovation: Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Organic Chemistry, Food Chemistry, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies.

Over the years, the DSF has woven a network of fruitful national and international collaborations with other universities, research institutions, and major industries, which confer it the characteristics of a cutting-edge structure in the field of pharmaceutical research. The main research lines and research groups are described in the section dedicated to research.

For years, the DSF has been ranked at the top in national rankings for the teaching of degree courses in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (CTF), more information on the educational offer can be found in the section dedicated to teaching.

The DSF oversees numerous second-level Master's degrees, and the Department also participates in the Doctorate in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Industrial Innovation. These post-graduate initiatives create a stimulating climate of discussion among young people interested in the departmental research themes.
